13 PPA candidates in fray for Itanagar municipal polls
Staff Reporter
ITANAGAR, May 05: The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA), state's lone regional party, is fielding 13 candidates out of the total 30 seats in the ensuing Municipal Election 2013. This was revealed by PPA in a press conference held this afternoon at Arunachal Press Club.
Addressing media persons, President PPA Youth Wing Techi James expressed hope that the party will win in all the 13 seats where they had fielded candidates.
"We expect lion's share and to come out stronger than all other parties this time," said James.
General Secretary, PPA, Dr Ashan Riddi while quoting the saying 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely' appealed people to join PPA and said, "It is time the conscious people of Arunachal need to join and feel confident with PPA which is its own party. And stop believing in Congress, who keeps in mind only the need of the people living in the mainland India. They make policies for them, and hence depriving others."
Replying to a query by one of the media persons on the loyalty shifting which is prevalent in the state, Riddi said, "People have realized Congress is high command based party. Times are changing. This is just the beginning. More and more people will realize the worth of PPA with time."
"It has been 22 years that Congress ruled the state but we see no change. People need to realize the false assurances that Congress gives," Chairman PPA Kamen Ringu said.
Meanwhile, stating that there are reports pouring in from some corners that few candidates are threatening voters to ensure their victory in the municipal election, he called on the PPA candidates to let the election take place in a democratic way so that the voters can elect the right candidates.
