NIT Arunachal Pradesh -- An Institute of National Importance

Gaurav Upadhyay

Steadily proving to be one of the most valu-able assets to the state, situated on the crest of hills at Yupia, is the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Arunachal Pradesh.

The institute was inaugurated on August 18, 2010 as a member of a group of 10 new NITs. These new NITs were established as preeminent centers in technical education to affray the growing need of technological professionals in India as well as abroad. Currently the institute is running in a mood with full swing in its temporary campus at Yupia.

NIT- Durgapur was mentoring the institute for over one year since its establishment. The day, the administration of the institute overtook the charge from the mentors, NIT-Arunachal Pradesh under the leadership of the dynamic director, Prof. C.T. Bhunia, and eminently with the back force of competent faculty members, is thriving on new heights. The institute has been under numerous trials since its establishment in 2010 but has overcome with merriment on exultation of all challenges and is thriving today with more than 200 students on roll. Currently the institute is running three under-graduate courses --four years B. Tech course in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with an in-take of 30 students each along with post graduate course, M.Tech in Mobile Communication and Computing. The institute is also providing facilities for research leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in conjunction with integrated Ph.D. after B.Tech. More UG, PG and Ph.D. courses along with increased in-take of branches are expected in forth-coming sessions, thus increasing the quality education as well as productivity of the institute in serving the nation and mankind.

Apart from the academics and administrative success, the institute is developing very fast with a robust institutional infrastructure. Despite running in a temporary campus, sophisticated labs, with portable machinery facilities are bestowed to empower students with maximal practical knowledge so as to make them fit for the growing industrial demands.

The success of recently held North Eastern Regional Science Congress roars for the institute's caliber in scientific and technical reach. Entrepreneur Awareness Camp and other extracurricular activities are held sporadically to enhance the role of students in the service to society. Cultural and Sports events are held at definite interval for all round development of students.

The institute is determined to have zero electricity consumption; one of its kinds in India, with installation of solar panels in the whole institutional building, thus the electrical demand is coped up to 100% by solar power.

The institute is expected to develop more expeditiously once after getting a permanent campus, which is supposed to be constructed at picturesque Jote village. The foundation stone was laid by the Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju on February 10 this year. The institute will directly or indirectly help in enhancing the human development index of the state.

310 acres of land has been taken in position and demarcation has been completed by constructing pillars around the boundary. The clearance of jungles, construction of entry gate has been completed. Positive approach in the construction and all round co-operations from the responsible department is required undoubtedly to bring down all constrains in the development. It is expected within few years, the institute will be running in its own campus, thereby producing a pool of prodigious talents.
